To demonstrate party unity, I went shopping!

So the long bitter primary fight is at an end. We have a nominee. This morning I watched the video of Obama talking to his staff after winning the nomination. It brought out an angle that I hadn't really considered as starkly before, namely that before now, it was OK for Obama to lose. Up until now that meant we'd get another Democrat, and any of the bunch would have been an improvement over what we had. Now we either get Obama or McCain, and if Barack loses, we make no progress on the issues we value. If Barack loses, we get 4 more years of effectively a Bush administration. If Barack loses, the country we love goes further down the tubes. That's not acceptable. So what did I do? Did I sit down and write a thoughtful diary comparing and contrasting the positions of Obama vs. McCain? No. I went shopping!

That's right. I went over to the Barack Obama campaign store and I stocked up on buttons, a couple of lapel pins, and a few of the great new car magnets.

I figure it's time to speak out and let people know that Democrats, Independents, and Republicans are uniting behind Barack Obama. I want the world to know I where I stand. Care to join me?

Shopping is good!

Re: .. I went shopping! (none / 0)

Are you spending your $600 stimulus money on these items?

$600 no can't say I will be, but some of it will be going to the Obama campaign and some to the Clinton campaign to help pay down debt.

Use your stimulus check!

All BO items are made in America by Union only labor.

Forget the rhetoric, go on google and look for article that says company who makes obama stuff now makes mccain stuff.

The company story is another awesome OBama story of this campaign.

At the beginning of the run, the company was family-owned type, 5 employees etc etc.

Since then they blew up and now have 50 employees, a warehouse and a bunch of stuff.

Gotta love progressive capitalism.

Absolutely, but (2.00 / 1)

I really need Obama to pick his VP soon. I don't have much room left for bumper stickers on my car, and I'd really rather have an Obama/whomever sticker than just an Obama '08 one. The car magnets seem like a good idea, though. I expect I could find room for those.

I have way too much stuff on the back of my car.

I agree. I was going to put an Obama (2.00 / 1)

sticker over my Hillary sticker, angled slightly so you could still see the Hillary sticker underneath, to show that I supported Hillary and now support Obama. However, I think I'm going to wait for the VP pick as well. I still like my Hillary sticker too much to cover it up.

Yeah, don't cover the Hillary sticker. (2.00 / 1)

I've got two on my car, and they're staying. I also have several spares, so if I have a wreck or get a new car, I can still have Clinton stickers on my car. Maybe that's a little pathetic and weird, but I don't care.

Another good reason to keep our Hillary stickers is that I think it sets a good example for people who may be hesitant about switching their support to Obama. When I start making calls and canvassing in the fall, I'm going to pay special attention to older people (especially older women). I think those are the ones most likely to vote for McCain. I'll be going door to door wearing Hillary and Obama buttons.

I went shopping yesterday, and bought buttons, car stickers, and yard signs.  Did not see the car magnets.  Maybe I will get one of those today.

Magnets are the best, especially for folks with expensive/flashy cars.

I am looking a for a local or internet vendor that can make them to order

Re: To demonstrate party unity, I went shopping! (none / 0)

i dont have a car, so it rules out bumper stickers and car magnets. and since its the summer im doing it up with the parents, who happen to be hardcore Hillary supporters, meaning that they will never take down the "Hillary for Texas" yard sign they have in the front yard.

WTF is this thing?? (2.00 / 1)

No, it's not on Obama's website, but I was just browsing elsewhere. I'm so confused by this:

What is it? I would never put something like that on my car.

Re: WTF is this thing?? (2.00 / 1)

the hell?

kinda reminds me of those puffball things with the little googly eyes and adhesive feet that you used to get out of the gumball machines as a kid. I guess you can write "Obama 2008" on just about anything and sell it these days.

As for shopping, it would be nice if the Obama shop would re-stock the T-shirts. I've been waiting for the "O" logo tee to be re-stocked for weeks. I don't want to buy a bootleg one off eBay or Cafe Press because I want the money going to his campaign.
